Art is Rubbish is Art by Earnest Zacharevic

At the moment I write this post, the exhibition by Earnest Zacharevic was end. However, I decided to continue work on the post because I would like to share the art presented by Earnest, especially to those who could appreciate it but unfortunately miss the boat.

The name Earnest Zacharevic become popular in Penang with his successful mural paintings where now become the tourist focus in Georgetown areas. This young Lithuania-born artist had demonstrating his talent in art through the murals painting that waking up the locals' passion to be artistic. One of the most popular mural by Earnest is the Sister-brother Cycling located at Armenian Street.

Recently, Earnest was having his solo exhibition with theme 'Art is Rubbish, Rubbish is Art' at Old Hin Bus Depot, Penang Island that open to public for free from 19 January to 14 February 2014.

Hin Bus Depot
We got to know from the newspaper where the exhibition is started from 12pm to 8pm daily. We made ourselves to be there around 11.50 am but seeing no one was around. Initially we thought that we would going to enjoy ourselves  without the crowd. However, when the clock move to 12pm, the visitors from different direction started to gather in front of the gate and waiting for the opening. Based on my observation, I would say that there were at least 200 people who was having the same intention like us to appreciate the arts by Earnest.

Looking at the theme, we were so excited to know how Earnest could turn the rubbish into arts. Frankly speaking, I'm not the artist and do not have any sensitivity to the arts, but the artworks displayed really impressed me.

People like me only know how to paint on paper but never think that the recycle materials could become valuable artworks after being painted by the talented artist. The first category of the paintings had been made on the wood. Below are some examples:

In overall, we are impressed by all the artworks exhibited. It is really worth for visit. For those who missed it out, perhaps you could like Earnest facebook and being alert if there is any other similar exhibition being conducted. If I'm not mistaken, Earnest had created some new artworks in Straints Quay, Penang. Just give it a visit and don't miss it if you happen to be around that areas. Enjoy!
